ALYSSA LISLE.

performer. facilitator. collaborator.

I am Alyssa Lisle, a contemporary dance artist based in Newcastle upon Tyne. My practice is deeply rooted in the belief that dance should evoke joy, empower individuals, and enhance connection. Whether in performance, facilitation, or direction, I’m driven by a passion for creating accessible, inclusive experiences that invite people to embrace the freedom that movement offers.

Dance allows me to connect deeply with myself and others while offering the space to disconnect when needed. I describe my classes as a ‘holiday in a body’ because to me, dance is not just physical—it’s a chance to escape the noise of everyday life and tap into something electrifying.

Over the last 10 years, I have based my practise within Newcastle, building a diverse portfolio and working collaboratively with regional and national companies. I continue to challenge myself and grow as an artist, constantly exploring new ways to evolve my practice and share the transformative power of movement.

Our hostess quietly enters the space to muffled music and there is something intoxicating about her as she slowly removes the drapes and reveals the interior of Le Monocle in an almost eerie way. Alyssa Lisle in this role is instantly captivating and her sublime elegance throughout is wonderous.

Professional Skills

As a dance facilitator and choreographer in the North East, I’ve had the opportunity to teach, create, and collaborate in a variety of settings.

  • Dance Facilitator

I have taught professional classes for Dance City in Newcastle, Gateway Studios in Gateshead, and facilitated company classes for Rendez-Vous Dance, Fertile Ground, and Carlos Ara Productions. I also lead contemporary technique classes for the BA (Hons) Dance Professional Practice degree at Dance City and have been a guest choreographer for the Dance City CAT Programme.

  • Specialised Programmes

I’ve delivered on programmes such Care to Dance, aimed at supporting young people in the UK care system, and Falling on Your Feet for Helix Arts, supporting dancers 65+ with low mobility. I also lead community classes in contemporary, ballroom, and Latin dance for both children and adults at Dance City.

  • Arts Council England Funding

As a successful recipient of the Developing Your Creative Practice funding, I used this opportunity to research safe working practices, training techniques, and holistic approaches to supporting dancers as they transition from professional training into freelance work.

  • Regional Dance Ambassador

I am the Regional Dance Ambassador (Newcastle) for Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures. This role is a collaboration between New Adventures and Newcastle Theatre Royal, during which I will deliver community sessions across the North East region to focus on how connecting, creating and moving together can improve wellbeing.

  • Rehearsal Director

In 2022, I served as the Rehearsal Director for the national tour of What Songs May Do... with Rendez-Vous Dance, an enriching experience I undertook as part of my Developing Your Creative Practice journey.

  • Choreographer

I have worked as a choreographer for several companies, including Boundless Company, a 55+ performance group in Newcastle, where I developed the full-length piece One Million, performed at Dance City, Hexham, and the Durham Fringe Festival. Additionally, I created a 15-minute work for Newcastle College Performing Arts Degree students, performed as part of their end-of-year Degree Showcase.

Alyssa’s classes are great for getting your whole body grooving while also increasing your technical dance knowledge and skills! I have experiences Alyssa’s contemporary classes both in real life and over Zoom, where she brings her uplifting energy, juicy movement and banging tunes every time. Her talent and passion for dance seeps into her teaching”
